The American Gaming Association wants the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to direct more funds to Las Vegas so it can protect itself from potential terrorists threats, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Monday.
In an interview with reporters, AGA CEO Geoff Freeman said his association has had conversations with Nevada's congressional delegation about getting the department to consider the danger terrorists pose to the city and the state's $53 billion casino industry.
Homeland Security directs federal grants to cities through the Urban Areas Security Initiative. AGA believes Las Vegas should be higher on the list of communities that receive funding.
"It is essential that the agency consider Las Vegas' unique characteristics and ranks the city in its top tier for fiscal year 2015," Freeman said.
AGA also announced Monday it has added five new board members and six general members. http://bit.ly/1Hwm357
